About

Muskegon County is gifted with an abundance of natural resources. It is located at about the mid-point of Michigan’s west coast. It has impressive natural resources, including over 27 miles of dune and sugar sand Lake Michigan shoreline. In addition to the Lake Michigan shoreline, Muskegon County has over twenty inland lakes, five of which are drowned river mouths that empty into Lake Michigan; White, Duck, Bear, Muskegon, and Mona Lakes. These lakes are created by river water that is constricted by shifting Dunes, and are highly specialized ecosystems that interact with Lake Michigan.

The county is also home to three State Parks including P.J. Hoffmaster, Muskegon and Duck Lake, all have Lake Michigan access, and miles of trails. The Muskegon State Game Area encompasses the Muskegon River valley and includes over 10,000 acres of diverse wetland and forest habitat offering hunting, fishing and paddling opportunities. The county also has over 65 miles of multi-use trails and two major paddle sport rivers (the White and Muskegon Rivers). Many of our treasures are easily accessed via I-96, I-94 and US31 by visitors from Southeast Michigan, Chicago, and Grand Rapids areas. Muskegon is a great destination for day trips, weekends, and vacations.

Our team is also committed to improving park accessibility and creating barrier-free access for all park guests. We are prioritizing ADA enhancements to restrooms, campsites, playgrounds, and more!
